Laweyan has sold cloth since the sixteenth century

Long before Surakarta had a palace, the merchants of Laweyan traded woven cotton along the Kabanaran river. Their walled houses still line Jalan Dr. Rajiman — high gates, inner courtyards, and behind them the low benches where women sit with a canting in hand.

Batik Soga was founded in that quarter and never left it. We work with natural soga bark, indigo and mengkudu root alongside modern fast dyes, choosing each for the depth it gives rather than the speed it offers.
